NAD C325BEE $400 / $380

Making the C325BEE better than the C320BEE was a tall order! By "trickling down" several innovations from NAD's new state-of-the-art Masters Series products has resulted in the C325BEE having even less distortion, less noise, and a more detailed rendition of the musical recording.

Transpotter
AKM4396, 44.1k, 48k & 96k

The Transporter uses the so-called Miracle DAC AK4396 by Asahi Kasei Microsystems Semiconductor. It is a true 192kHz 24-bit 2-channel DSD-capable D/A converter with AKM's advanced multi-bit architecture to achieve a virtually flat noise floor up to 80kHz. The signal-to-noise ratio in the 20kHz band extends to 120dB. In addition to excellent anti-jitter characteristics and a 256-step linear attenuator, the switched capacitor DAC incorporates AKM's unique low-power circuits. This maintains performance while reducing power consumption by 47% compared to the AK4393.

Squeezebox Touch
AKM4420, 44.1k, 48k & 96k

The Touch is equipped with an AKM Semiconductor AK4420 stereo DAC that supports bit streams up to 24-bit resolution with sampling rates as high as 192kHz (the Touch itself is limited 24-bit/96kHz) while delivering an impressive signal-to-noise ratio of 105dB. This is the first time we¡Çve e ncountered this DAC (Logitech has used Burr-Brown and Wolfson DACs in the past), but we dig it.
